Dr Charles Immanuel Akhimien is a medical doctor and social entrepreneur who co-founded MOBicure – a social enterprise providing mobile technology solutions in healthcare for Nigeria and Africa. MOBicure’s flagship product, the award-winning OMOMi app is providing over 39,000 pregnant women and mothers in Nigeria with life-saving maternal and child health information. MOBicure’s myPaddi app, which was launched earlier this year, is providing 4,500 young people with anonymous access to accurate and non-judgmental sexual and reproductive health information.
Charles is highly regarded as an innovator and thought leader with numerous international accolades. He is a 2017 United Nations Global Compact SDG Pioneer, a One Young World Ambassador, and a 2016 Mandela Washington Fellow. Charles is also a JCI Nigeria Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award Honoree for 2018. Furthermore, he is a 2017 Commonwealth Youth Award finalist, a Johnson & Johnson One Young World Scholar, as well as a grant awardee of the U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF).
Charles was a Highly-Commended runner-up of the 2016 Queen’s Young Leaders Award. He was also named as one of the Real Leaders 100 List of 2018 alongside global icons such as Prof. Muhammad Yunus, and Bill & Melinda Gates.
An avid writer, he was the winner of the 2013 World Environment Day Blogging competition organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and he subsequently represented UNEP in Mongolia as the official blogger for the 2013 World Environment Day.
