Editorial policy
This page explains what sdgyl.org publishes and what readers should expect from it.
What we publish
sdgyl.org publishes news and explainers; it is not a primary source. News items report developments. Explainers set out a topic in plain language for readers who are coming to it without background.
Because this site is not a primary source, nothing here should be treated as the authoritative text of a rule, a decision or an announcement. Where a subject matters to you — because money, a licence or a legal obligation depends on it — read the original document issued by the body responsible for it, and rely on that rather than on our summary of it.
Articles describe a moment in time
Gambling rules change often, and an article describes the position at the time it was written. A piece that was accurate when published can be overtaken by a later change in the rules, and an explainer written for one set of conditions may not match the conditions that apply when you read it. Treat the date on an article as part of the article: it tells you which version of the rules the writing was based on.
This also means that two articles on this site, written at different times, may describe the same subject differently. The newer one reflects the later position; the older one records what applied earlier.
Errors and corrections
To report an error, use the contact page. It is useful to include the title or address of the article, the part you believe is wrong, and — where you have it — the source that shows the correct position. Reports that point to a specific passage are easier to act on than general objections.
Corrections apply to factual mistakes: wrong figures, wrong names, wrong descriptions of a rule. A disagreement with the framing or emphasis of an article is not the same as an error, though readers are welcome to raise either through the contact page.
